My Top 5 Essential Oils For the Homestead

As we wrap up March and start a new month, I have to tell you how I have truly enjoyed being a part of the Essential Oil Challenge Group.  Great reports are coming in from people who are brand new to essential oils, and also from some who have been using them for a long time like me. I have learned so much from the lemon group in March! Lemon oil, which I did not use very often before the group – is now in my top 5 group of must have oils for the home.

Some of the great ways people have had success with Lemon oil:

  • I am so grateful for this group! I’ve been adding lemon oil to my laundry and it comes out so fresh every load. Also, I know it was last months oil but I had a crabby almost 2yr old today that we just couldn’t soothe. Joy (essential oil blend) was totally my friend. Nothing else calmed her all day. Within minutes of starting to diffuse it the tantrums stopped. Thank you!
  • I soaked some strawberries in lemon water yesterday AFTER I had rinsed them twice in plain water – I was shocked at how much dirt and residue the lemon water had. I think I will be adding more bottles of lemon to my next order – one will stay right at the sink for cleaning produce :-)
  • Lemon oil to the rescue! My daughter was coloring and ended up with permanent marker above her eyebrow. I knew soap and water wasn’t going to cut it. Scrubbing would be too painful. So I gave Lemon Oil a try. It worked!! I was impressed.
  • I have been putting the lemon oil in my water when I go to work. I am a massage therapist and sometimes I really run out of steam after 4 or 5 massages. The water really keeps my energy up even when I don’t have time to eat.

And there was much more happening for people – from skin clearing, to bringing new energy to elderly pets, to stain removal and more (lemon is a great cleanser for the body AND the home!). Lemon has totally moved into a tie for first place on my list. Rounding out my list:

Tied for first place with Lemon in my top 5 essential oils list is Lavender. I have written about how I use lavender daily for multiple things before and since it’s the April Oil of The Month, I am so happy that we will get to share the many uses with all the people who join the group. I tell people “when in doubt, use lavender”

My third favorite would be Peppermint. Actually this is the one that gets the most usage from my family because it is so great for an energy boost and clearing stuffy noses or allergy symptoms, aches and pains, and it’s our solution to upset tummies/indigestion.

Fourth is Frankincense. Just like I said “when in doubt, reach for lavender”  – the same can be said of Frankincense. It really is a universal, multipurpose oil and if it was precious enough to be presented to baby Jesus, then I am blessed that I get to have a bottle in my home.

Fifth is Thieves. Who doesn’t need a germ-fighting oil in their arsenal? I use it for fighting off those pesky colds the kids like to bring home from school, immune boosting, cleaning and disinfecting the house and animal cages. I even use it in the laundry to keep clothes smelling fresh.
